Life presents us with experiences that profoundly shape who we are.  It is important to be able to navigate and explore the impact of these experiences in a caring, safe and non-judgmental environment.

At times these experiences may leave us in need of healing and compassion.  In my counselling practice I strive to provide a space where each individual feels able to begin and continue this journey of exploration and healing.  We all have areas of inner strength present in our moments of deepest vulnerability and therapy provides an opportunity for greater self-awareness, self-compassion and empowerment.  It is an experience where change and growth are welcomed and encouraged.

To facilitate self-awareness, as well as change and growth, I use a variety of therapeutic modalities such as Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems as well as play, art and sand based therapeutic strategies.   The types of modalities and therapeutic strategies used depend on the individual needs and goals for therapy.

I have a particular interest in working with children, adolescents and adults who have experienced grief or loss of any kind, whether it be loss of a loved one, loss of a job, loss of health, loss of a relationship or loss of sense of self.

More About My specialties

[ Open All | Close All ]

Children:
“There’s joy and wonder everywhere when you see the world in the eyes of a child.” My work with children involves exploring difficulties they may have with anxiety, depression, grief and loss as well as anger. read more
I facilitate change by supporting their creativity, self-understanding and exploration of their world through therapeutic play and relationship. In addition to a therapeutic relationship with the child I also work collaboratively with their caregivers to help strengthen the relationship and connection between adult and child.

Adolescents:
“Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times.” I believe that underneath all actions and reactions is the need to be loved and to truly be seen. read more
Being a teenager can be a time of heightened emotions and uncertainty which is difficult to navigate for both the teen and their caregivers. To transition through this time, I work with both parents and teens to establish connection and relationship. I also aim to build a strong therapeutic relationship with teens so that we can work together to address any concerns of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief and loss, everyday stressors and self-harm they may have. Depending on the interest and personality of the adolescent I may introduce art and sand based therapeutic strategies in addition to traditional therapy.

Couples:
“Happiness isn’t having everything perfect, it is seeing beyond life’s imperfections.” We can be hurt in relationship and also healed in relationship. read more
When we are struggling in our couple relationship this can impact every other area of our lives. Whether it is financial stress, communication difficulties or not being able to connect anymore this can create extra stressors in our lives. Sometimes it is difficult to understand ourselves let alone understanding our partner and this can create conflict when what we really want is connection. Therapy builds on these areas of connection and provides an opportunity for deeper understanding and healing.

Trauma:
“Trauma creates change you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose.” The effect of trauma is not something we choose, yet it is something we are faced with and it can interfere with the quality of our daily life. read more
After experiencing trauma, we may be more fearful or carry with us a deep sense of shame, regret or guilt. To us, what used to be ordinary and part of our regular routine may seem overwhelming, even unsafe and the familiar foundation we were able to depend on is now unfamiliar and unsteady. The good news is that healing from trauma is possible. In session I strive to offer a safe space to compassionately address trauma in an integrative and sensitive way. I also consider the unique qualities and needs of each individual and will introduce art-based strategies if needed.

Pre-marital Counselling:
“Make it your goal to create a marriage that feels like the safest place on earth.” So often a large amount of our time can be spent on preparing for the wedding day. read more
Our attention is focused on choosing the perfect cake, or the most beautiful venue, or our first choice of photographers and not on the areas of marriage that matter long term. It can be both challenging and exciting to join two lives together to become one. Consider Pre-marital counselling as another opportunity to connect with your fiancé and an important investment in your future.
