Practicum Student, Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Program
Wellness is a continuum, and I am passionate about proactively promoting positive mental health. Life is a journey with many peaks and valleys. We all deserve compassion and companionship as we navigate daily routines and responsibilities, and even more so in times of adversity. With the support of others, I have learned to redefine a crisis; to find a multitude of gifts on my most difficult paths.
I have been a teacher since 2004, and recognize that unaddressed mental health challenges, trauma, as well as social/emotional needs (of anyone - students, staff, family members, etc.), can be a barrier to success in the classroom, and ultimately in life. This is an area I am committed to making a difference in my community. I recently completed a Master of Education focusing on optimizing mental health in schools.
Parallel to my approach to teaching, the foundation of effective counselling is in the relationship. I strive to create a safe and empathetic space where you are heard, valued, and encouraged to both articulate and reach your goals. It is a privilege to hear your story, to journey with you, and to empower you as you write your next chapter.
I love to learn, and appreciate opportunities to grow personally and professionally. I value time with my husband and our two daughters, away from the “to do” list. Some of my wellness tools include: reading, running, coffee and tea, organization, new notebooks, hot summer weather and sunshine!
“Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation. You cannot control what happens to you in life, but you can always control what you will feel and do about what happens to you.”
- Viktor E. Frankl
