Alyce Allaster-Hunsperger

Within each of us are the answers to guide us on our unique path in life. My job is to assist you in drawing out the colors of your life and watch as the beauty unfolds. My therapeutic orientation is client centered – which mean that you as a client are at the center of treatment. You are the most important person in the room. I offer compassion, empathy, and a collaborative spirit to assist you in obtaining a more fulfilling and rewarding life. My goal is to build a strong therapeutic relationship that will assist you in finding your answers to life and give you tools to maintain a healthy life.


Alyce is a registered psychologist in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists. She is also a member of the Psychologist Association of Alberta. She has over 20 years of experience in working with families, couples, children, youth and adults. Alyce began her career working with children, youth and families in schools, agencies, hospitals and mental health settings. As she worked with children she expanded her training and work to specialize in separation and divorce in families becoming a trained mediator to assist families in one of the most difficult transitions family’s experience. She has 40 hours of training in family law, working with lawyers and the legal community to ease the burden of separation and divorce. She has been a member of the Alberta Chapter of Alberta Arbitration and Mediation as well as the Alberta Mediation Society.

Another passion of Alyce’s is working with adolescents and adults experiencing ADHD. She is trained in the assessment of ADHD and her background in behavior sciences is an asset to her assisting individuals in finding success in life regardless of ADHD symptoms.

Children and youth:
Children are not always able to vocalize what their thoughts and feelings. This is why play therapy is an integral part of the work that I do with children and youth. read more
I have worked in schools as a behavior consultant and often used cognitive behavioral therapy, as well, to help older children and youth to voice their concerns and move forward in their journey of life. Parents and teachers are also an important part of the work that I do with children and youth, as they are such a large part of a their life. I see young people as part of a system that includes parents, teachers and sometimes extended family, that can be a resource to assist in the child’s process of change.

Premarriage counselling
Pre-marriage counselling has been a passion of mine for the past 10 years. I enjoy assisting individuals in building a solid foundation for their marriage. read more
I have compiled a three hour, one time counseling session that assists individuals in being prepared for embarking on their new journey together. I offer this 3 hour package at a reduced rate to honour the commitment couples are making to the long-term health of their relationship, at a time when finances can be stretched.

Family Counseling:

Separation and Divorce :
I am a trained mediator in family law. The breakdown of relationships is a very painful experience that is also a very individual experience. I assist individuals in two ways: read more
1) as a trained mediator in dividing property in a respectful and caring environment 2) as a trained mediator in assisting parents in parenting plans that are in the best interests of the child or children 3) as a therapist to assist adults and children in their transitions as they move through this difficult family transition. I use play therapy, narrative therapy, cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy to assist families in restructuring their family system

Assessments :
ADHD for adolescents and youth: The initial 90 minute appointment includes taking a thorough look at the strengths and difficulties that are presenting in the individuals life. This includes interviewing the client to fully understand how read more
ADHD is impacting their life. The client then fills out the assessment form. A 60 minute follow up appointment is used to interpret the results of the assessment as well as taking time to work with the client on setting appropriate and reasonable goals for future progress. During this 60 minute follow up session, further sessions are arranged for to ensure success with the clients personal treatment goals.
