Practicum Student, Master of Art in Counselling Psychology

I believe that meaningful support is one of life’s most valuable resources. As a counsellor, my goal is to journey with you and provide support to you through the times in life that can be the most challenging. By learning about your unique experiences and perspectives, and establishing a genuine and trusting relationship, I strive to help you identify, uncover, re-establish, and grow your inherent strengths that will help you to face and overcome difficulties.

I believe in an integrative approach to therapy, where each client’s present state will guide where our practice begins. Client goals are established through mutual understanding and acknowledgment. I work within a client centred, psychodynamic framework, incorporating techniques from a variety of areas, including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness therapy, exposure therapy, narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy. I also strongly value education as a means to empower individuals and families to feel confident and in control of their lives.

I’m an open-minded, compassionate, curious, and introverted individual; all qualities that have contributed to my pursuit of a career in psychotherapy. I have worked in a variety of research, volunteer, and employment positions that have allowed me to grow my own interests in and better understand human behaviour. The most moving of these experiences has been my role as a Child Protection Worker for the past five years. This role has helped me appreciate the impacts that social, familial, and psychological dysfunction have on daily living for individuals, and on the lives of those surrounding them. I also gained invaluable experience working with children with disabilities throughout my Masters studies. I remain committed to learning, through my personal and professional endeavours, and am grateful to be joining the River’s Edge team where I believe I will have the pleasure of learning endlessly from clients and colleagues alike.

"For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out, and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction”
