Cathy Danilec

Canadian Certified Counsellor

Life is full of unpredictable change and challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Therapy provides an opportunity to gain clarity, overcome obstacles, and take action to reach personal goals. Seeking support takes courage and I would like to extend a warm welcome on taking steps towards making a positive change in life.

My counselling approach is founded on warmth, compassion, and creativity. I aim to provide a safe and respectful space, to hold your story and your process, without judgement. In our work together, I use curiosity and collaboration to encourage reflection around your thoughts, feelings, and experiences to increase self-awareness and better understand how you show up in the world. This process is not always easy, but together we can explore, eliminate unproductive patterns, and engage new possibilities that align with your values and strengths.

Since we are all unique beings, I feel passionately about tailoring therapy to meet the needs of each individual. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities to facilitate change and growth including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Art Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also incorporate elements of mindfulness and self-compassion into therapeutic sessions.

About Me:

I hold a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy and Spirituality with a specialization in Art Therapy. I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor and a professional member of both the Canadian Art Therapy Association and the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta. My clinical experience has been centered on supporting brain injury survivors and caregivers. At the centre of this work I have learnt to incorporate a strength-based perspective in therapy and have found a passion for exploring themes of empowerment to help individuals reach their fullest potential.

... I use a combination of talk therapy and art therapy depending on teen interests to guide self-discovery and help teens make sense of the world around them. I also believe that learning skills and strategies to cope empowers teens to thrive and incorporate psychoeducational components such as stress management, emotional regulation, and healthy relationships into sessions as they relate to client goals.
