separation & divorce counselling

Relationship breakdown can be a difficult time in one’s life. It is often likened to death, as one grieves the various losses they experience during this time. Many individuals have experienced separation and divorce as a complicated grief, as the losses are often intangible. Separation and divorce counselling assists individuals as they grieve these intangible losses and navigate a new way of living and being in the world.

Specialized separation and divorce counselling has the added benefit of a counsellor who is trained in the legal processes of separation and divorce. They are knowledgeable of the laws surrounding separation and divorce and understand how the legal process can affect an individual’s emotions and vice versa.

Separation and divorce counsellors can also assist parents in understanding how to speak to their children about their separation and divorce, and how to care for their children's needs as they move through the stages of anger, shock, denial, bargaining and acceptance. Many of our counsellors are also trained to work directly with children to support them in what can be a difficult transition.
